Hummer EV is Sold Out for 2 Years

Remember when we said the backlog for EVs has (mostly) eased up? Well, there are exceptions — like the Hummer EV, which is apparently sold out for two years.

Not too long ago, we reported that most EVs were backordered 3-6 months, while the superstar of the electric world, Tesla, was backed up at least a year.

But times have changed, and while Tesla faces parts delays, with a total vehicle backlog of about 317,000 units, even they’ve cut down delivery times dramatically.

And the overall delays are down across the EV world…mostly.

Course, buyer behavior has at least something to do with scarcities, as with the Hummer EV’s wild popularity.

My European colleague did a good job summarizing why the very idea of electrifying a vehicle weighing 4,080 Kg (with a battery pack weighing 1,300 kg+) is probably more trouble than it’s worth — driving a monstrosity like that for its environmental benefits is a near contradiction in terms.

And appropriately enough, a recent report claims that the GMC Hummer EV emits more pollutants than a gas-powered Chevy Malibu.

But even the Hummer EV’s $100K price tag hasn’t dampened buyers’ enthusiasm.

Buick and GMC Global Vice President Duncan Aldred claimed the Hummer EV, in both Pickup and SUV formats, is “sold out for two years or more.”

Current reservations total 90,000 units, and they haven’t taken any new reservations since September.

To drive that point home, GMC has only produced 2,570 units of the Hummer EV Pickup as of September.
