Lucid is sparing no hyperbole with its all-electric, three-row SUV, claiming it “heralds the dawn of a new era for electric SUVs.” The vehicle sports an aerodynamic design, with a coefficient drag of 0.24, and the ability to go from zero to 60 mph in < 3.5 seconds. It also includes a 900-volt electrical architecture, with payload capacity of 1,500 pounds+ and 6,000 pounds of towing capacity. And of course, the flashiest stat, a 440-mile range, which Lucid boss Peter Rawlinson claims is “with a battery pack a little more than half the size of some of our battery-hungry competitors.” That presumably includes current and upcoming rivals like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Ford Mustang MACH-E, the Kia EV6, the Skoda Enyaq, and more. Of course, it would still lag behind Tesla’s Cybertruck (a pickup), which supposedly achieves up to a 500 mile range, but 440 miles for an SUV is still pretty darn impressive, and it would more than cover even the longest daily commutes. What’s the downside? Well, like most EVs bigger than an ugly hatchback (and even then), the starting price – about $80,000 – is probably beyond the means of the average consumer. And that’s just the bare bones floor price – you can easily count on it realistically costing closer to $100K with add-ons and tax. The Gravity will supposedly go into production in late 2024. |
