Eclino drive systems are engineered to optimize the performance of electric bikes

VARTA Microbattery and Höganäs collaborate on novel electric bike drive system

    09/04/2014

VARTA-Microbattery, a leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of an extensive variety of high-technology rechargeable and primary batteries, and Höganäs, a world-reknown producer of metal powders for the automotive components industry, today announced the Eclino™ series of drive systems engineered to optimize the performance of electric bikes. Based on Höganäs' transversal flux motor technology and powered by VARTA Microbattery's Engion™ lithium-ion modular battery, Eclino drive systems uniquely provide cyclists with unparalleled hill climbing ability (torque) as well as range.

The compact, high-performance Eclino drive system series notably features intelligent control algorithms to ensure a smooth and powerful ride. It moreover is easy to install (plug-and-play) on a broad range of electric power assisted cycles (EPACs), speed pedelecs and an array of light electric vehicles (LEVs). The drive system offers proportional electric assist in a variety of applications including, commuting, exercising, running errands, shopping, and leisure.

"The collaboration of VARTA Microbattery and Höganäs to produce the Eclino series of drive systems marks a significant milestone in the evolution of electric bike design and function," commented Fred Schellert, general manager of VARTA Microbattery-Power Pack Solutions. "The outstanding functionality of this new, efficient, high torque solution could only have been achieved by the partnering of companies with the depth of experience and technological expertise as VARTA Microbattery and Höganäs. We are very excited to jointly debut the Eclino series at Interbike 2014."

VARTA Microbattery and Höganäs will be co-exhibiting the first e-bikes equipped with Höganäs' Eclino drive systems at Interbike 2014, at booth 7008. The Eclino drive systems will be installed on OHM Cycles' pedal-assist electric bikes.

Interbike 2014 will take place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, .from September 10 through 12.
