GreenCLK3TM 32.768 kHz oscillator family

Silego Technology, a leader in quartz-replacement 32.768 kHz ICs, introduced their third-generation GreenCLK3TM 32.768 kHz oscillator family. At only 1x1.6 mm the oscillators are the world’s smallest in standard plastic packaging. The product family is also available in die form with a total area of less than 0.6 sq mm, or fully 50% smaller than competitive devices.

Hundreds of millions of Silego’s GCLK and GCLK2 families are in top consumer electronics products reducing the size and cost of notebooks, tablets, GPS devices, modules and smart phones. “The GCLK3 generation is 50% lower power, 50% improved in ppm accuracy, and greater than a 10 dB improvement in phase noise as compared previous generations which in turn expands the number of applications that may successfully convert from quartz to silicon”, said John McDonald, Silego’s VP of Marketing.

In the lowest power mode with only the 32.768 kHz clock output active, this new generation IC consumes just 0.75 µa (typical) at tighter ppm accuracy over temperature as compared to tuning fork quartz crystals. In full active mode with both MHz clock and 32.768 kHz outputs active the IC consumes around 0.9 ma with a MHz phase noise of less than -135 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset. Virtually all wireless standards may now be clocked with GCLK3 technology based products.

Target applications:
• Mobile devices that require both MHz and 32.768 kHz crystals
• GPS systems with tighter ppm requirements over temperature

GCLK3 is compatible with Silego’s proprietary 0.27 mm Lo-ZTM packaging technology. Ultra-thin Lo-Z product offerings are available upon request to select customers.
