The Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) Magnetics Committee is sponsoring a Special Presentation session at APEC 2011 titled "Capacitors in Power Electronics." The session will take place on Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2011, at the Fort Worth Texas Convention Center, and will feature seven experts from capacitor companies that serve the power electronics industries. These unique presentations will cover the new developments for the major capacitor dielectrics and their roles in power electronics. Mega-cap advances in MLCCs, pattern-metalizing advances in metalized polypropylene capacitors, doubling voltage in polymer tantalum capacitors, doubling voltage in AC film capacitors, and new high-performance ultra-capacitors have dramatically expanded the contribution of capacitors in power electronics. Capacitor design is often less-than-familiar terrain for power electronics engineers, and that makes this special session all the more valuable because of the increasing contribution of capacitors to power electronics. Attendees will gain a better understanding of various component configurations and factors that are shaping capacitor component technologies. OEMs designers, system designers and component developers will become more aware of new options, thus helping component developers to provide more effective configurations and system designers to better optimize their power electronics. Ian W. Clelland, ITW Paktron, and Laird L. Macomber, Cornell Dubilier, co-chairs of the PSMA Capacitor Technical Committee and this Special Presentation Session, stated "the PSMA Capacitor Committee has recognized the need at APEC for more practical, application-oriented information about our specialty. This Special Presentation session will not only be very informative but will also provide an opportunity for attendees to interact with other professionals who are active in the design and application of new materials and designs. We are encouraging people to register for APEC 2011 and make plans to attend the Special Presentation Session and to consider participating in the other PSMA sponsored meetings during the week." www.psma.com
