PCTEL, a leader in performance critical telecom solutions, launched the M2M Wi-Fi MIMO Antenna at SPS IPC Drives 2014. This rugged omnidirectional antenna is designed for exceptional reliability in machine-to-machine (M2M) industrial wireless applications. It represents a significant improvement in data throughput performance over the single-output and diversity antennas that are common in the industrial wireless market.
The Internet of Things (IoT), composed of physical devices connected to the internet, is transforming modern industry. M2M Communications forecasts that the IoT and M2M market will grow at almost 30 percent per year over the next five years to nearly $1 trillion in 2019. From 195 million connected devices in 2013, McKinsey predicts that we could reach over a trillion in 2025. All of these connected devices are already resulting higher demand for data throughput. Network reliability is still essential, but functions such as process automation and video monitoring also require high levels of data throughput. That means more access points and rapid adoption of MIMO technology.
"PCTEL’s new antenna will keep the M2M environment from becoming an Internet of Slow Things," said Marty Singer, PCTEL’s Chairman and CEO. "We will continue to develop rugged, reliable antenna designs that support the next generation of industrial wireless networks," added Singer.
The M2M Wi-Fi MIMO Antenna is optimized for intelligent data acquisition and other industrial wireless applications. It supports dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi with coverage optimized for data throughput. Its IP67-rated housing includes a single cable exit for easier installation.
PCTEL will be demonstrating its antennas and site solutions for M2M wireless networks at SPS IPC Drives, Hall 10, Booth 322-A, Nov. 25-27. PCTEL is currently accepting orders for the M2M Wi-Fi MIMO Antenna for delivery in January 2015. Order using product number DIV2458PTRAMMCX.
