Newark element14, a distributor of technology products and solutions for electronics system design, maintenance and repair, has partnered with Texas Instruments to offer the MSP-EXP430F5529LP LaunchPad. Also dubbed the F5529 LaunchPad, the module offers an easy way to start developing on the MSP430 MCUs with an on-board emulation for programming and debugging.
Complete with buttons and LEDs providing a simple user interface, the F5529 LaunchPad also helps designers quickly learn and develop using the new F5529 MCUs. They provide the industry's lowest active power consumption, integrated USB, more memory and leading integration for applications such as energy harvesting, wireless sensing and automatic metering infrastructure (AMI).
The product’s 40-pin expansion headers for LaunchPad BoosterPack™ development tools and a wide range of available BoosterPack plug-in modules enable rapid prototyping. Users can quickly add features like wireless, displays and sensors, among others. Individual BoosterPacks can also be designed, or users can choose among many already available from Texas Instruments and element14. The 40-pin interface is compatible with any 20-pin BoosterPack that is compliant with the standard.
The MSP430F5529 16-bit MCU has 128KB flash, 8KB RAM, 25-MHz CPU speed, integrated USB, and several peripherals to get engineers started in their development.
Custom USB functionality can be quickly added, using the free open-source USB tools and examples available in the MSP430 USB Developers Package. This includes the MSP430 USB Descriptor Tool, which quickly customizes any combination of USB interfaces and automatically generates your USB descriptors for those interfaces.
Free software development tools are also available -- TI's Eclipse-based Code Composer Studio™ IDE (CCS), IAR Embedded Workbench™™ IDE (IAR), and the community-driven Energia open source code editor.
This offering is part of Newark element14’s continually expanding selection of TI launchpads and boosterpacks. element14’s Knode provides a wealth of information on these products including tutorials, schematics, application notes and user manuals, among other resources.
