New report by cloud collaboration company, Asite, identifies how the construction industry can optimize its digital future

A new report by Asite has found the United States is leading the push for the global adoption of digital engineering.

Joining its counterparts in the United Kingdom, Australia, the European Union, Hong Kong, and India, the United States has been noted as a driver for the adoption of digital engineering techniques and processes which have the capabilities, as the report states, to transform the AECO sector.

The report found that projects across the United States are beginning to utilize new digital engineering technologies.

Common technologies include tools that can improve planning and oversight on projects, such as high-definition photography, 3-D laser scanning, and geographic information systems, enabled by recent improvements in drone and unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV) technology. All of which dramatically improve accuracy and speed.

Chris Peters, Senior Vice President of North America said:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our industry and has fundamentally changed the way we operate. As our industry rebuilds and recovers, we need to be aware of the opportunity the pandemic has provided to adopt a more digital approach to working as we adapt to our new realities.

Here at Asite, we recognize the importance of digital adoption and believe the future of our industry lies in digital engineering. This focus on a digital future has also been recognized here in the United States as projects are beginning to adopt digital tools and techniques to improve how they operate.

For years, Asite has been at the forefront of digital integration across the construction industry, and we are ready to bring that level of expertise and wealth of knowledge to support organizations across the country on their digital journey.”

Governments around the world are recognizing the importance of digital engineering and are introducing initiatives to encourage innovation.

In the United States, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Building Construction (ABC) Initiative, led by the Department’s Building Technologies Office (BTO), promotes advanced building construction techniques, such as off-site manufacturing, robotics, and the digitalization of building design and construction processes.

Although currently focused on the housing sector, the initiative seeks to improve construction productivity as a whole and ensure that assets are smarter, healthier, more sustainable, more resilient, and more responsive to the needs of their users.

Asite is recognizing this push and what it means for the construction industry in the United States and is developing its platform to work alongside US organizations as they continue to build their usage of digital engineering.

Asite is already working with a number of clients across the United States. One notable project is Asite’s work with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City. Following a competitive tender process, Asite was chosen to work on existing and upcoming MTA projects, including the MTA Capital Program 2020-2024, delivering a fully collaborative project portfolio management platform for information sharing across the supply chain.
