PoE+ Enabled Gigabit Multi-port Magnetic RJ45 Modules

Molex extends its product offering for multi-port magnetic jacks with the introduction of PoE+ Enabled Gigabit Multi-port Magnetic RJ45 modules to meet a wider range of customer applications. Available in 12-port (2x6) and 8-port (2x4) versions, these magnetic RJ45 modules are designed for use in high port-count gigabit switches and routers, providing Gigabit data along with enabling delivery of PoE+ 30W power to networked end devices.

“The Molex PoE+ Enabled Gigabit Multi-port Magnetic RJ45 modules are delivered fully optimised and pre-tested,” says Pat Tunn, product manager, integrated products division, industrial products group, Molex. “This results in lower component placement costs, improved production yields and easier EMI qualification for the customer.”

Capable of 10/100/1000Mbit transmission, the multi-port magnetic jacks are IEEE802.3 compliant; with an industry-standard footprint, they are drop-in replacement and provide switch manufacturers with a reliable source for the industry. The Gigabit magnetics within the modules are compatible with a variety of Gigabit Ethernet transceiver PHYs. The magnetic jacks feature two single- or bi-colour LEDs per port, which support a full range of customer LED configuration requirements. Extended temperature connector options are also available.

PoE is a technology that defines the transmission of both data and power to networked devices over a standard Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies. PoE+ ( IEEE 802.3at) provides the opportunity for switch manufacturers to increase port-power output to 30W,. The specification of PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) standard is backward compatible, supporting legacy PoE (IEEE 802.3af) devices.
