GaN Systems' GS66508P transistor

For the past 10 years it has been considered noteworthy when two power devices were combined in one package, saving 5% power or decreasing size by 10%. Now all that's changed! Google's $1,000,000 Little Box Challenge resulted in taking a 2 kW inverter and decreasing its size 10 times! The contest drew over 2000 entries from around the world from major corporations, to universities, to small businesses, and resulted in 18 finalists with the vast majority choosing GaN transistors.

In the end, CE+T's entry at 143 W/inch3, using GaN Systems' GS66508P transistor, won by not only exceeding the required goal of 50 W/in3 by almost 3X, but also passed the rigorous system testing performed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

GaN Systems, with the generous cooperation of CE+T, is displaying the Google Little Box Challenge champion entry in Booth #2125 at APEC 2016 in Long Beach, CA. This is a unique opportunity to see in person the actual winning power inverter and to marvel at its diminutive and compact 2 kW design. Don't miss this historical opportunity to see the power industry's most talked-about innovation!
