First 1700 V GaN Switcher IC Delivers 90% Efficiency from 1000 VDC Bus

The industry’s first 1700 V gallium nitride (GaN) switch is now available in a new member of the InnoMux-2 IC family, substantially expanding the range of applications for GaN technology. InnoMux-2 devices enable single-stage flyback power supply designs with up to three independently regulated outputs.

The 1700 V rating achieved by Power Integrations’ PowiGaN technology marks a watershed moment in the advancement of GaN power electronics, making it possible for GaN devices to replace costly silicon carbide (SiC) transistors in industrial applications such as three-phase meters and auxiliary power supplies for automotive chargers and solar inverters. The new IC easily supports 1000 VDC nominal sources and achieves 90% efficiency for up to 60 W.

The 1700 V InnoMux-2 IC combines the benefits of four pioneering innovations by Power Integrations:

• 1700 V PowiGaN Switch – Industry-leading voltage blocking capacity for gallium nitride

• InnoMux-2 Multi-Output Capability – Independently regulated outputs without post-regulators

• FluxLink Regulation – Communication across the isolation barrier without optocouplers

• Single-Chip Zero Voltage Switching – Minimizing switching losses without an active clamp

InnoMux-2 devices empower system engineers to rethink power architecture and reclaim the DC-DC stage into the main power supply system. Each output is regulated within 1% accuracy, and InnoMux-2 controller manages light-load delivery, eliminating the need for pre-load resistors and reducing no-load consumption.
