Texas Instruments have introduced their first high-speed, high-current, single-channel, low-side gate driver with 4-A source and 8-A sink capability. The UCC27511 replaces discrete gate driver circuits, providing rise and fall times of 9 ns and 7 ns, respectively. A 375-m? pull-down resistance minimizes switching loss as the power switch transitions through the Miller plateau and improves immunity to Miller turn-on events. A related driver, the UCC27517, sources and sinks 4 A and provides similar dynamics to the UCC27511 with 500 m? pull-down resistance. Both devices can provide the low-side gate drive for power MOSFETs, IGBTs, and wide-bandgap power semiconductors in applications as diverse as telecom equipment, air conditioners, portable power tools, and UPSs. Both devices operate from -40 °C to 140 °C. The UCC27511 is available in a 6-pin SOT-23 package for a unit price of $0.60 (1000 pieces). The UCC27517 is available in a 5-pin SOT-23 package for a unit price of $0.49 (1000 pieces). The full datasheet and SPICE transient model are available online at the Texas Instruments website.
