Demonstrations, Conference Papers and Presentations Focus on Innovative Power Technology Solutions

Fairchild Semiconductor, (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, will demonstrate innovative power solutions for real success at PCIM Europe 2012, 08-10 May, in Hall 12, booth 601, in Nuremberg, Germany. At the show, Fairchild will feature silicon and solutions that lead to customer success, including solutions for industrial power, automotive, LED lighting and DC-DC conversion. Industrial power supply solutions enable designers to improve energy efficiency, simplify board space and design while decreasing time-to-market demands. Fairchild's automotive solutions feature current limitation, ESD and short circuit protection. In response to the growing industry demand, Fairchild's LED lighting solutions are designed to support multiple dimming platforms, achieve high power factor and provide thermal protection. The company's DC-DC conversion solutions address the need for increased power density within devices requiring minimal space design. Visitors to the Fairchild booth can learn more about these solutions that can help them achieve greater efficiency, simplify design and save space - leading to increased success, including:

  • Solutions for industrial power supplies that highlight the 650V Field Stop IGBTs, FGA40N65SMD and FGA60N65SMD. These devices feature high current handling capability, positive temperature coefficient, tight parameter distribution and a wide safe operating area. Other demonstrations include an advanced 2.5A Output Current Gate Drive Optocoupler that uses Fairchild's Optoplanar® packaging technology and optimized IC design to achieve reliable and high insulation voltage as well as high noise immunity.
  • Automotive solutions on display include Fairchild's newest gate driver ICs, the FAN7171 and FAN7190. These HVIC gate drivers deliver an integrated inverter solution that provide increased efficiency, higher drive current, and greater noise immunity for hybrid and electric vehicles. Also on display are Fairchild's Smart High-Side Switches, FDDS100H06_F085, FDBS09H04A_F085A, and FDDS10H04_F085A. Designed with an N-channel power FET, these devices feature a charge pump, current controlled input and diagnostic feedback specifically designed to address advanced electrical load control in automotive body electronics.
  • For demanding LED lighting applications, solutions being demonstrated in the booth include devices that support both TRIAC and analog dimming. The FL7730 single-stage primary side regulation (PSR) controller achieves dimming control without flicker over the full range of 0 to 100 percent light output. Also on display is the FL7701 Smart Non-Isolated PFC Buck LED driver. With a special "adopted digital" IC technique, this device automatically detects the input voltage condition and sends an internal reference signal, allowing the FL7701 to achieve high power factor.
  • Solutions for DC-DC conversion include Fairchild's Generation III DrMOS Multi Chip Module family. These devices are designed with Fairchild's proprietary PowerTrench® technology, providing better efficiency and increased maximum load current for DC-DC power applications. Also at the show, Fairchild will discuss the latest PowerTrench® Power Clip 25V Asymmetrical Dual N-Channel MOSFET, the FDPC8011S. This device allows for a better design layout and delivers up to 20A in a 3.3 x 3.3mm2 form factor, reducing the total component footprint by 50 percent over traditional solutions.
  • Motion Control solutions highlighted at the show include BLDC controllers, such as the FCM8201, a three-phase sinusoidal brushless DC (BLDC) motor controller. The device comes with the advanced Hall sensor design, which allows the control system to execute the PWM commutation by switching the three-phase inverter. Also on display are Fairchild's smart power modules (SPM®) that provide efficient motor control for energy-restricted white goods. The SPM series is designed specifically for inverter technologies that demand total cost performance ratio of the overall drive system. Conference and Poster/Dialog Sessions from Fairchild experts include: The Renaissance of the BJT as a Highly Efficient Power Device Based on SiC Material - Anders Lindgren along with Samuel Araujo and Peter Zacharias of the University of Kassel will present a detailed investigation of BJT device properties with a demonstration of practical application.
