EBV Elektronik, an Avnet (NYSE: AVT) company and the leading specialist in EMEA semiconductor distribution, dedicates the sixth issue of its knowledge magazine ‘The Quintessence' (TQ) to the topic of healthcare. The TQ magazine takes a look at the advancements made in medical technology over recent years. Bernd Schlemmer, Director Communications at EBV Elektronik, explains: "According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), spending on health is forecast to rise faster than growth in GDP through to 2050, and in some countries it will account for as much as 15 percent of total economic output. And the global demographic shift is also having an effect: the world's population is currently growing by some 78 million every year. So the market for healthcare products will be correspondingly larger, too." Schlemmer continues: "At the same time, the medical technology sector is highly innovative, utilising technologies from a wide variety of fields. Diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive procedures are increasingly based on the complex interaction between different technologies, with electronics playing a key role. Almost all innovation in the sector is based on electronics know-how." In ‘The Quintessence of Healthcare', EBV takes a look at the advancements made in medical technology over recent years. Starting with minimal-invasive surgery, with which far more gentle surgery and faster healing is possible, to modern imaging techniques that form the basis for increasingly precise diagnoses. The magazine reports on robots in the operating theatre and on prostheses which can be controlled by thought. Another important area in ageing societies are telehealth solutions with which patients can be continuously monitored and cared for, also at home. Further selected content from the latest issue of ‘The Quintessence': In conversation with Prof. Dietrich Grönemeyer: On the relationship between people and medicine Moving towards the Tricorder: Pocket-sized medical devices Almost better than nature: Prostheses are becoming ever more intelligent From a distance: Future trend telehealth Round-table discussion: Medical technology overcomes barriers ‘The Quintessence of Healthcare' is available in German and English and can be ordered as a personal hard copy or an eco-friendly eBrochure.
