Lantiq, a leading supplier of broadband access and home networking technologies, today announced that Cambridge Industries Group (CIG) selected Lantiq's FALC™ON optical network termination System-on-Chip ICs for integration into its next generation customer premise equipment (CPE). As a leading ODM serving the global telecom CPE market, CIG chose the FALC ON chips to design a family of optical network termination (ONT) units with low power consumption, small footprint and robust optical network performance. CIG, which designs and manufactures ONTs for the world market, is using FALC ON System-on-Chip (SoC) ICs in four Single-Family Unit (SFU) devices, including data-only and richly featured voice/data units. The FALC ON chip set is the only standards-compliant GPON ONT device with fully integrated optical control circuitry, which reduces the number of required system components and supports key performance and reliability features. "Compact and cost effective designs with robust network performance are key criteria for CIG's selection of core devices to enhance our product portfolio," said Dr. Gerald G. Wong, Chief Executive Officer of CIG. "The Lantiq FALC ON chip set is a unique platform that adds value to our BOSA on Board (BOB) and allows us to build ONTs that meet ever increasing demands from our OEM customers and service providers." The three devices in the Lantiq FALC ON family feature integrated burst mode Laser Drivers and APD/PIN-receiver-control circuitry which allows direct interfacing to a BiDi Optical Sub Assembly (BOSA) without using costly and area-consuming optical transceiver modules. The combination of optical control circuitry, ITU-T G.984 compliant GPON MAC and an on-chip CPU also enables automatic calibration and compensation of optical component variations. The power consumption of Lantiq GPON SoC based ONT equipment (http://www.lantiq.com/news/press/152-first-gpon-soc-falc-on/) is significantly lower than CoC requirements for 2011/2012 by far and it is significantly lower than the currently proposed efficiency requirements for 2013/2014.
