Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, a designer, developer and
global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors and power ICs,
announced the release of the AON6590, the flagship device in its new
40V medium voltage portfolio. The AON6590 is designed to address a wide
range of applications including primary-side and secondary-side
switching in telecom and industrial DC/DC converters, secondary-side
synchronous rectification in DC/DC and AC/DC converters, as well as POL
modules for telecom systems.
The AON6590 is the lead product in what will be a new portfolio of 40V
products that are optimized for switching power conversion. Compared to
previous generations, this new product improves on-resistance by 30%
which reduces conduction losses and allows lower case temperatures
during heavy load operation. AON6590 also offers low output
capacitance, reducing turn-off energy loss, thus enabling higher
efficiencies in hard-switched applications. In addition to the
performance benefits, this device has been designed with a robust UIS
capability to handle extreme conditions such as output short circuits
or start-up phases. The AON6590 is available in a compact DFN5x6 power
package.
"AON6590 marks a new generation of products designed to enable rugged
system solutions with higher power density. The new device allows our
customer to design power supplies that run cooler and improve overall
system reliability," said Stephen Chang, Sr. Product Marketing Director
at AOS.
