ABB has extended its relationship with bp through signing a five-year Global Frame Agreement (GFA) to supply automation, electrical and telecommunications equipment across bp’s upstream and downstream assets and facilities. The partnership, with ABB as a supplier, aims to streamline system integration, reducing risk, cost and project execution time.
As part of the scope of the agreement, ABB will deliver an Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) with the ABB Ability™ System 800xA® Distributed Control System across bp’s facilities. In line with ABB’s Automated System Vision, System 800xA will be central to the smooth adoption by bp of new technologies while preserving and elevating existing operations. This will help advance facilities towards a more open, modular and resilient automation environment that seamlessly integrates and optimizes performance.
“We selected ABB for this strategic agreement because of their global presence, brand quality and proven expertise in managing and derisking complex systems,” said Richard Mortimer, Vice President Engineering and Quality at bp. “Building this collaboration with ABB as an integrated provider should help us maintain project timelines, as well as ensure timely delivery and execution.”
Additionally, ABB will be able to provide the Electrical Distribution System (EDS) for safe, reliable and efficient operation of assets. This can include power distribution equipment, power management systems, medium and high voltage switchgear, and low, medium and high voltage motors.
ABB’s Digital Telecommunications Systems will enhance bp’s digital infrastructure, lowering total cost of ownership. ABB can provide long-term maintenance and health monitoring for electrical, instrumentation and control systems, with solutions including asset management, obsolescence management, and spare parts support.
“We are proud to partner with bp to support their efforts to optimize, electrify and decarbonize their global operations,” said Per Erik Holsten, President of ABB Energy Industries. “ABB can help to reduce operational costs and deliver efficiency gains. Our focus on flexibility, security and digital transformation will help bp to seamlessly integrate their current operations with future capabilities, ensuring continuous progress.”
ABB will offer the Adaptive Execution™ project management approach which integrates the automation, electrical and telecommunications systems throughout the project life cycle from design to delivery. Adaptive Execution can help mitigate project risk and cost, shortening timelines by 10-30 percent and reducing capital expenditure by up to 40 percent.
