Bicker Elektronik, Donauwoerth/Germany, introduces a modular DC UPS solution for safety-critical systems in industrial, medical and smart infrastructure applications. The 24V DC uninterruptible power supply with CE-certified LiFePO4 battery pack ensures fail-safe operation during power outages, voltage dips or flicker, preventing system failures and data loss.
Quality and safety “Made in Germany”
The development of the uninterruptible power supply "Made in Germany" focused on safety, robustness and longevity. The DC UPS solution consists of the BICKER UPSI-2406 charging and control unit and the powerful LiFePO4 battery pack BICKER BP-LFP-1375S (99Wh). This combination ensures reliable protection for embedded IPCs, measurement, control, and automation technology, sensors, actuators, cameras, safety technology and many other critical applications. The UPS management software "UPScom" with an intuitive interface for easy configuration and monitoring is available for free download.
High-performance battery pack BP-LFP-1375S with IEC 62133-2 safety certification
The powerful and CE-certified BP-LFP-1375S (99Wh) impresses with its highly stable battery chemistry, long service life of at least ten years, and up to 6,000 full cycles. Bicker Elektronik deliberately uses the particularly safe lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology for the energy storage units developed and manufactured at its headquarters in Donauwoerth/Germany. This technology minimizes the risk of thermal runaway almost entirely. The BP-LFP-1375S offers a reliable power source with an operating temperature range of -20 to +55°C, even in demanding environmental conditions. The 10-year battery pack is certified to IEC 62133-2 and carries the UN 38.3 transport certificate.
Battery management system for safety and efficiency
The Battery Management System (BMS) monitors and controls the charge and discharge process of each individual cell, optimizing the lifespan and safety of the battery pack. The cell balancing function ensures an even distribution of charge energy across all cells to maintain the full capacity of the pack. Thanks to the integrated system-present function, the battery pack’s output (BAT-PWR) remains deactivated (output voltage = 0V) until it is connected and unlocked with the DC UPS control unit via the communication connector (BAT-DATA). This safety and energy-saving feature enhances the storage capability of the (charged) battery pack.
Intelligent control and monitoring with the UPSI-2406
The UPSI-2406 charging and control unit enables flexible integration of the DC UPS solution into existing systems. Through an I2C interface, all relevant operating data of the battery pack are continuously monitored and controlled. An intelligent PowerSharing function ensures that the available input power is dynamically distributed depending on the load demand and the battery pack’s charge state. In the event of power failure or voltage dips, the UPSI-2406 seamlessly switches to provide uninterrupted power from the energy storage within microseconds. Additionally, the minimum load detection monitors whether the load at the output exceeds a defined threshold during battery operation. If it falls below this threshold, the UPSI-2406 automatically disconnects the energy storage from the charging unit to avoid unnecessary discharge. In addition to USB and RS232 interfaces for data communication, the UPSI-2406 also includes a relay contact.
Software "UPScom" for comprehensive UPS management
The new UPS management software "UPScom" allows users to conveniently monitor and adjust all relevant system parameters of the DC UPS solution. The software is available for free for Windows® and Linux and facilitates easy setup and real-time monitoring of the entire DC UPS system. Features include configuration of charging parameters, monitoring of remaining capacity, and the ability to perform a controlled shutdown of connected devices in the event of a power failure. The responsive web UI allows access to the system via modern web browsers and supports both x86 and ARM-64 based systems.
"Shutdown & Reboot" function for autonomous embedded IPC systems
In the event of a power failure, the UPSI-2406, with its integrated USB or RS232 interface, can signal the power outage and initiate a controlled shutdown of the connected IPC system. This ensures valuable data is saved before the system shuts down. The "Shutdown & Reboot" function also enables automated system reboot once power is restored – ideal for autonomous embedded computer systems in hard-to-reach locations.
Lower total cost of ownership compared to lead-acid batteries
While lead-acid, gel or AGM batteries may seem cheaper at first, high-quality lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells offer a significantly longer lifespan and cycle durability. Lead-acid batteries are limited in terms of discharge depth and cycle count. When considering total operating costs (TCO) over a period of at least 10 years, the LiFePO4 technology offers clear cost advantages. Additionally, over this period, there is no maintenance required for replacing battery packs.
